Worried about parking while volunteering?

Consider riding the trolley!  As you know the trolley is free and available to all of our volunteer locations...Rupp House, Wills House and of course the Visitor Center.  Why not jump on and save yourself the hassle of parking- plus you will see first hand how great a service this is and can relay this information to our visitors!  -Terri

As part of our Living History program, the Gettysburg Foundation was recently honored to have Mr and Mrs Robert E Lee pay us a visit. They were near the Virginia monument on Confederate Avenue greeting bussloads of 8th graders.

Archibald Cohea was with the 4th Texas Infantry here at Gettysburg. Robert E Lee often referred to the Texas Brigade as his "shock troops" and they were some of the first soldiers to see action on the second day at Gettysburg as they attacked Devil's Den.

Battlefield Trivia Question:

What's the name of the Avenue in front of the Eternal Peace Light Memorial on Oak Hill?

Battlefield Trivia Question :

The Pennsylvania Monument sits at the intersection of three avenues. Name the avenues!!
We have a new device on the wall at the Membership Services Desk in the Musuem & Visitors Center. It's called "Weatherbug", and as you can see by the snapshots below, it gives a lot of information. Every few seconds it rotates from the current weather conditions, to a 3 day forcast, then a view from the roof, and finally live Doppler radar. This is really great for our visitors as well as our Guides, about to go out on a tour.
If you work at the Membership Services Desk; make sure you look at the "weatherbug" each time you arrive. Sometimes it "freezes" on one screen. If you see this; simply turn the switch off on the back of the screen. Then turn it back on; it will re-boot and work fine

New Volunteer Opportunities

I wanted to alert you to a couple of new opportunities coming up that are different than your regular assignments.  First, beginning May 11 and 12 we are offering Service Days to work on the battlefield.  The jobs throughout the summer will vary, but for these 2 days, coming up we are looking for people to help us continue to "build" the Sherfy Garden.  If you are interested in helping dig in the dirt for a couple of hours (beginning at 8:30 am) let me know!  Bring your gloves and work boots (or old shoes!)

The second is helping with setting up (and tearing down) tables and chairs for our June in Gettyburg event on June 7.  You will need to be at the MVC at 5:30 to set up for about 150 people.  The Foundation will provide a separate dinner for the volunteers who are working the event and then you will tear down the tables and chairs at @ 9 after the event ends.

INTERESTED???  Please let me know and/or sign up on the  volunteer calendar!

This is only a test...

Since I am new to blogging, this is just a test to see how easy and fun it is to post items on our blog.  I think this will be a great way for our 100+ volunteers to stay informed! What do you think?
